SUPERVISOR'S TITLE: Director, Family Relations




PURPOSE OF POSITION: To assist with the overall growth and success of the Family Relations Department and Cincinnati Children's by optimizing and maintaining a comprehensive online resource directory for families of children with complex health conditions. To participate on inter-disciplinary teams within Cincinnati Children's and in the community to support patient/family access to care across the lifespan. To partner with parent/family/patient organizations to increase access to available resources as well as identify gaps in needed resources. To lead assigned projects related to, but not limited to, growing the use of the online resource directory as an advocacy tool and bridging patient advocacy group access gaps to Cincinnati Children's services.

·Patient and Family Advocacy
Work within current processes of the Family Resource Center to expand key advocacy initiatives to support care integration and the patient and family experience strategic priorities. Answer WEB or e-mail inquiries from parents, family members and professionals. Assist parents and professionals in locating educational information and resources. Assess literacy level with each inquiry and provide information appropriate to these skills.
Use the input and experience of working with families to make improvements in the special needs resource directory. Work collaboratively with CCHMC clinical care delivery teams, social services, community services and legal rights advocates to design and execute the programs of the Family Resource Center to eliminate duplication of services and streamline operations to better serve children and their families. Provide subject matter expertise helping families advocate or special education services such as IDEA, Section 504 and ADA legislation, multifactored evaluations, IEP and 504 plan development. Project manage new initiatives designed to proactively incorporate the parent/family voice including identifying and researching future program development opportunities.
·Resource Management
Oversee the continued growth of the Special Needs Resource Directory (SNRD) as a key source of current, reliable information for families and healthcare providers. Update and revise content in the SNRD. Partner with Marketing and Communications to take advantage of online best practices, search engine optimization, and analytics. Develop strategy to identify and remedy gaps in services for patients and families with Special Needs. Recommend new areas to expand and market advocacy services and further empower families; identifying and networking with other children's hospitals providing advocacy services to inform program growth. Develop and implement condition specific family advocacy programs, patient and family publications, and a comprehensive plan for elevating social media/networking opportunities that provide support systems to patients and families. Work collaboratively with Advocacy Center leadership to research funding opportunities to support the design and implementation of future programs focused on meeting the needs of patients and families.
Expand existing relationships with internal (CCHMC divisions) and external physician groups, e.g. PHO and community providers to educate about advocacy services provided by the Family Resource Center. Present at conferences, disability agencies and organizations, schools and parent support groups to market the services provided by FRC.
Complete appropriate contact forms as needed. Document each interaction using appropriate form. Participate in the design and implementation of SNRD evaluation metrics to inform current and future program redesign.
