Sterile Processing Tech I/II- Full-Time- 40 hrs/week- 3rd Shift- 11p-7:30am (3 Positions Open)

DEPARTMENT: Sterile Processing and Distribution (SPD)




PURPOSE OF POSITION: To perform cleaning, sterilization, equipment maintenance and supply activities for the Clinical Support and Sterilization department of a Medical Center dedicated to the care of infants, children and adolescents. To serve as a role model and resource to the department.

·Compliance - Patient Services Staff
Sustain a working understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Support leadership in Compliance efforts to meet and sustain the regulatory compliance efforts of the department and hospital. Be mindful and judicious in monitoring safety and departmental policies and procedures. Ensure all individual certifications and Safety College requirements are fulfilled in a timely basis. Work with department managers, nurse council and magnet representatives to identify and share safety best practices. Be mindful of CCHMCs processes and compliance with CMS standards and freely communicate safety and compliance concerns to leadership team members.
·Patient Care (Indirect Provider)
Demonstrates an in-depth understanding of the technical skills required to support quality care for our patients and families. Operate department equipment, including sterilizers (steam and ETO) aerators, flash sterilizer, washer/sterilizer, drying cabinet, washer/disinfector and flusher disinfector, according to safety procedures and protocols. Keeps accurate records according to policy and procedures. Report malfunctioning equipment and other environmental hazards immediately. Demonstrates the ability to make appropriate decisions, prioritize planned and unplanned events and address potential or actual problems. Procedure preparation is focused on cost effective provision of supplies and equipment to facilitate patient care with positive outcomes.
·Department Responsibilities
Engages in surgical procedure preparation accuracy; disposable supplies and instrumentation trays. Maintain adequate stock and storage of supplies and equipment. Actively participates in Quality Improvement initiates of the unit to support safe patient care. Identifies problems and opportunities for improvement and actively works toward implementing modifications to improve organizational performance through recommending approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data and providing input to department discussions. Acts as a role model for performance improvement and change initiatives. Performs unit practices according to established procedures and assist others as needed. Identifies potential problems and notifies management. Actively supports and enhances the daily Perioperative flow for reliable safe patient care. Prioritize duties according to fluctuating workloads and changing demands. Teaches others to effectively use resources, equipment and technology to support quality patient care and customer service.

Preferred Level I:

  • Completion of Central Service/Sterile Processing Certification Program or Surgical Tech Program
  • Certification from National Institute for the Certification for Sterile Processing & Distribution Personnel or the International Association of Health Care Central Services Materials Management.
  • Two years of related experience in hospital environment.

Required Level II:

  • High School Graduate OR equivalent
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician for Level II
  • 1 year of Sterile Processing experience for Level II
