PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Provide day to day support of application deployment and integration in the on-prem and cloud-hosted research network environment. Provide day to day support of the research infrastructure in AWS, Google and other cloud environments. Provide project support and implementation with the ability to manage projects of low to medium complexity. Identify problems with on-prem and cloud-hosted infrastructure and implement appropriate solutions.

Responsibilities
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
APPLICATION DESIGN
  • Lead architecture development for BMI for software development projects to accomplish a standards-based data and applications infrastructure that will allow the creation of highly innovative applications.
  • Assist/Develop various applications, including web based systems with advanced query development for quality improvement efforts.
  • Participates in or leads design discussions and reviews.
  • Identifies and corrects potential program errors.
  • Analyzes, reviews, and rewrites programs to increase operating efficiency or to adapt program to new requirements.
    APPLICATION INTEGRATION AND CLOUD DEPLOYMENT
  • Responsible for planning, design, implementation, and maintenance of on-site and on-cloud highly scalable systems for agile application development and deployment.
  • Develop and implement a configuration, patch management and application load balancing plan in the cloud.
  • Ensure that cloud infrastructure is recoverable and secure.
  • Implement a monitoring solution for the cloud environment. Monitor server, container and operating system performance; provide analysis and solutions to performance issues.
  • Plan and execute change within the systems by following the policies and procedures as defined by CCHMC Research IT.
  • Proactively identify potential issues and conceptualize their solutions while providing direct technical support and problem resolution assistance.
    CUSTOMER REQUIREMENTS
  • Serves as the primary interface with clinicians/staff to analyze workflow, gather requirements, problem-solve and discuss possible solutions. Confers with representatives of departments concerned with projects to resolve questions of program intent, data input, output requirements, and inclusion of internal checks and controls.
  • Ensure outstanding end-user support is provided, including ongoing monitoring of Service Level Agreements for incident management and collaboration with other areas to ensure customer-centered incident management and support.
  • Adhere to and promote continual adoption of change management policies and procedures.
  • Model outstanding customer service behavior, including timely and effective follow-up with customers.
  • Always maintain CCHMC's service standards of being Courteous, Attentive, Respectful and Enthusiastic team members, and Safe (CARES).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
    PROJECT MANAGEMENT
  • Manage clients' expectations and satisfaction. Communicate with all key project stakeholders regarding project status.
  • Assign additional resources provided by the manager according to the project needs.
  • Lead meetings with clients and help them transition from a requirement to the successful implementation.
  • Manage project documentation, scope, and timelines. Develop and get approval for project charter as well as project requirements and plan.
  • Propose a viable design approach by analyzing the possible courses of action and associated impacts.
  • Implement new technologies, designs, deployments, and testing methodologies to projects.
  • Develop C# Web based systems with SQL Server database back-end. Develop interfaces to access data from varying data systems across the institutions utilizing technologies such as C# coding or SQL Server Integration Services, or other technologies as applicable.
  • Work with cross functional teams.
    SYSTEM SUPPORT
  • Identify system and technology needs and act as a liaison to ensure appropriate systems and reporting are maintained in support of project requirements.
  • Assist in defining outcomes and parameters, designing measurement tools, setting up monitoring systems, gathering data, and analyzing outcomes data.
  • Maintain systems and processes related to projects.
  • Initiate and communicate changes as necessary.
  • Provide direct technical support for production and process issues.
  • Troubleshoot and decipher error messages. Identify required resources to resolve issues.
  • Utilize appropriate Change Control methods to implement system solutions. Be proactive in the identification of potential issues and conceptualizing solutions.
  • Serve as a resource for and as a liaison between various groups in the Cincinnati Children's divisions/departments and CCHMC Research IT.
  • Support departmental efforts to improve customer satisfaction. Evaluate and monitor system performance and functionality to avoid potential issues as well as gathering information for future development needs or feasibility studies.

Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field OR Equivalent
  • 5 years related experience

Preferred:
• 3 years of public cloud experience.
• Experience working on infrastructure and application deployment projects of varying complexity.
• AD/LDAP/Kerberos authentication, multipath and SAN, virtualization experience, Apache, Tomcat or equivalent, configuration management such as SCCM, Chef, Foreman w/ puppet, system management tools like SCOM, Spacewalk, Katello.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
• Strong scripting skills with bash, perl, python, powershell & other scripting languages.
• Experience performing Agile application deployments in collaboration with developers.
• Experience managing development/production environments in a public cloud environment.
• Moderate experience with setting up and scaling services in a public cloud environment.
