Speech Pathologist II - Perlman Center

PURPOSE OF POSITION: To provide comprehensive therapeutic management for complex patients for the Perlman Center of a Medical Center dedicated to the care of infants, children and adolescents. Collaborate with other care providers within CCHMC and the community. To take a lead role in the multi-disciplinary team approach and holistic model of care at the Perlman Center. To be an expert in the area of specialty approaches and treatments for children with complex physical conditions and/or disabilities; to provide lectures and in-service training to professionals within Cincinnati Children's and the community.

Responsibilities
·Compliance - Patient Services Staff
Sustain a working understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Support leadership in Compliance efforts to meet and sustain the regulatory compliance efforts of the department and hospital. Be mindful and judicious in monitoring safety and departmental policies and procedures. Ensure all individual certifications and Safety College requirements are fulfilled in a timely basis. Work with department managers, nurse council and magnet representatives to identify and share safety best practices. Be mindful of CCHMCs processes and compliance with CMS standards and freely communicate safety and compliance concerns to leadership team members.

·Patient Care - Age Specific and Culturally Diverse
Consistently integrates age specific and culturally diverse concepts into patient care, taking into consideration both the patient's chronological age and developmental functioning.
·Evaluation
Uses clinical observations and assessment measures to screen for program entry. Adapts as necessary and administers a variety of tests, measures and methods to evaluate children with complex and chronic physical conditions/disabilities. Makes appropriate recommendations and referrals. Effectively includes parental input and report in evaluation sessions. Conducts ongoing assessment of progress and outcomes and makes modifications to treatments as indicated. Provides evaluation results to parents as appropriate and within structured parent conferences. Evaluates and prepares patient for discharge or transition as appropriate.
·Planning & Treatment
Develops long- and short-term goals for every patient. Contributes to the Team Treatment Plan to insure interventions are responsive to patient's and family's needs and are coordinated across disciplines and care providers. Works with the team to plan developmentally appropriate activities/ environments and/or sessions. Maintains, sets-up and manages equipment and materials for therapy and insures that work areas are organized and safe. Actively engages the family in the child's ongoing therapy, supporting needs for information and instruction, seeking input, supporting healthy family interactions and showing respect and empathy. Implements and monitors treatment plan and modifies as appropriate to reflect changes in child's performance and input from the treatment team. Utilizes a variety of best practice intervention strategies. Incorporates team input in treatments to insure holistic care. Develops an Assistive Technology Plan for patients and incorporates new equipment, strategies and assistive technology in treatments. Communicates treatment goals, progress and ongoing therapy plan in the family conference. Collaborates with community providers. Provides input and recommendations for the Transition Plan/School Integration Plan.
·Follow-up and Documentation
Completes required daily/weekly activities and documentation to ensure accurate scheduling, exchange of clinical information, reporting, referrals and charges. Provides all documentation and communications necessary for the procurement of assistive technology for patients within expected timeframe. Consistently sends reports to all appropriate professionals. Participates in patient care conferences outside of the Perlman Center as needed. Advocates for families in state Medicaid appeals, school IEP process, and/or local and state funding and service requests as needed. Completes data collection and analysis required by funding partners.
·Productivity and Contributions to Revenue
Manages schedule and patient visits to make productive use of time and achieve billing targets and productivity expectation of the Perlman Center. Continuously monitors self-performance in the area of productivity.

Works collaboratively with the team to create and maintain a developmentally appropriate environment, which provides maximum opportunities for active participation of children and effective therapy interventions. Sets an example in the multidisciplinary team process, modeling effective problem solving, collegial learning and pursuit of best practice. Demonstrates skill for at least one Level II competency in order to serve as a specialist diagnostician and therapist. Evaluates, applies and instructs others on new trends in assistive technology. Investigates and recommends new diagnostic tools and treatment approaches. Participates in the development of informational materials and programs for the Perlman Center. Assists other staff members by educating, providing resources, and consulting on difficult cases. Presents lectures, presentations or in-services to staff, various professional groups, or parent groups. Participates in a professional organization or special interest group. Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in assistive technology and/or other areas that have a direct impact on priority outcomes for the Perlman Center. Participates in planning and implementing best practice approaches to improve outcomes.

Acts as a leader for Perlman projects, programs, committees and/or specialty teams. Works on special projects of the Perlman Center and completes projects in a timely manner. Assists in developing, implementing and evaluating new procedures for the Perlman Center. Assists in the orientation of new staff. Advises on appropriate equipment and materials needed. Recognizes opportunities for improvement and works toward implementing corrections or improvements. Remains responsive to customer needs and generates solutions to identified problems. Participates in ongoing assessment of current needs of target patient population and development of programs/approaches that are responsive to these needs. Takes an active role in planning for community, regional and/or national educational and training events and conferences offered by the Perlman Center. Actively participates and leads discussions at Perlman staff meetings. Assists with collection and analysis of data for funding sources and special projects.

Supports and participates in performance improvement activities. Serves on committees and/or work groups in the Perlman Center, the Speech Department, hospital and/or community. Participates in peer review. Supervises students. Completes required training and education and maintains licensure and certification.

Required:
·A master's degree in speech-language pathology (or communication sciences and disorders)
·Certificate of Clin Competency (CCC) granted by the (ASHA) American Speech Hearing Association
·Active state license in speech-language pathology
·Seven years total experience working in the field of speech pathology
·Has completed at least two practice competencies and has a high level of clinical skill
·Must maintain at least a .5 FTE status
