SENIOR RESEARCH ASSISTANT - Organoid Center - Surgery


The Center for Stem Cell & Organoid Medicine (CuSTOM) at Cincinnati Children's Hospital is a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, clinicians and entrepreneurs using advances in developmental biology and stem cell technologies to revolutionize personalized medicine and improve patient care.

The CuSTOM Accelerator, a new state-of-the-art laboratory opened in 2019, that provides a mechanism to translate bench-to-bedside discoveries.

As part of our aspirational goal of first-in-class organoid therapeutics, we are hiring a Senior Research Assistant for our pre-clinical model development and implementation program. This position will support researchers by performing technical procedures in the conduct of experiments and protocols by collecting, recording, and exporting data in the delivery of in-vivo studies. The primary daily tasks for this position will include but not limited to:

  • Advance rodent surgical techniques.
  • Additional rodent techniques (including but not limited to a range of dosing routes, various blood collection methods, advanced necropsy collections, PK execution, drug formulation, etc.).
  • Section tissues, perform histology and immunohistochemistry analysis.
  • Performs non-routine specialized procedures and routine bench work as required.
  • Conduct preliminary data analysis and prepare presentations for group meetings.
  • Provides quality science that forms the basis for publications and patents and helps to prepare publications and patents.
  • Manage required safety protocols for animals, biohazards, and stem cells under the overall direction of the PI.
  • Stay up-to-date and be familiar with new technologies, techniques and animal models.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with key stakeholders to understand scientific challenges, project needs, and in turn facilitate execution of in vivo studies.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively.
  • Strong interpersonal influencing and collaboration skills to work in a team-oriented, matrix environment.
  • Ability to adapt to and effectively manage change in a fast paced and dynamic environment.

For the CuSTOM labs, perform these operational duties:
  • Colony management
  • Animal ordering and receiving



  • •Bachelor's degree in a related field

    • 7 years of experience in related job discipline OR Master's degree and 6 years experience
  • Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) certification.
Unique Skills:

  • Expertise in handling, dosing, and tissue harvesting from rodents.
  • Experience in data collection, management, analysis and presentation.
  • Must be highly organized, proactive, co-operative, and willing to work in a fast-paced small team environment.
  • Proficient at data collection, analysis and presentations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate and relay data/results efficiently to senior staff.
  • Proficient with MS Office and other commonly used software.
