Senior Associate - Public Relations - Marketing & Communications


PURPOSE OF POSITION: To proactively research; package and pitch positive stories about important work going on at the medical center for placement in local; regional and national media outlets to improve brand awareness and reputation for Cincinnati Children's


REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
·Planning & Execution
Actively engages in department activities and planning processes. Attends PR team, department meetings; and other meetings of hospital departments as needed or requested. Monitors the news media and researches trends in media to ensure efforts are maximized. Regularly connects with internal divisions/departments, i.e, 'beats' to find story leads. Beats include: Allergy/Immunology; Behavioral/Mental Health (including ADHD, Autism, School Crisis Center); Child Life; Development; Emergency Medicine: Endocrinology/Diabetes; Mayerson Center/Child Abuse; Obesity/Nutrition; Outpatient Centers; Perinatal Institute/Neonatology; Seasonal/Evergreen/Topical; Project Search. Writes, edits and produces print, video, web-based and multi-media advisories, press releases and other materials as needed to tell medical center stories. Helps develops and maintain updated crisis communication plans; Participates in crisis drills and activities. Supervises and develops interns and temporary employees in Media Relations. Trains and serves as a spokesperson on behalf of the medical center.
·Customer Service
Provides informal media training for hospital personnel who are asked to do interviews. Listens, evaluates and responds in a timely manner to requests for news media and Public Relations support from colleagues throughout the medical center. Develops relationships and maintains contact (in a variety of ways) with colleagues in Marketing and Communications, beats and hospital leaders to remain current on issues and opportunities.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE


Required:
·Bachelor's Degree in Journalism or Communications or related discipline
·7 or more years of progressively responsible experience managing media relations AND public relations in a large, complex organization, within a healthcare environment

Preferred:
·Master's Degree
