Program Manager - Gastroenterology

SUPERVISOR'S TITLE: Medical Director of Liver Transplantation

COLLABORATIVE RELATIONSHIPS: Medical Director and Surgical Director of Liver Transplantation, additional Liver Transplant Program Leadership, Clinical Directors/Managers and staff, RNs, Physicians, Integrated Solid Organ Transplant Program staff (ISOT)


PURPOSE OF POSITION: Provide leadership, coordination and implementation of Liver Transplant Program daily operations. Develop and implement clinical, administrative and research process systems essential for the success of the Liver Transplant Program. Extend the reach of the program by leading the development of novel programs involving transition, education, and organ donation advocacy. Partner with clinical leadership and CCHMC Development Office to increase philanthropy.

Responsibilities
·Liaison
Work with others to manage business aspects of Liver Transplant Program services and educational offerings within and outside CCHMC. Interface with other CCHMC administrative leaders in the inpatient and outpatient units to ensure Liver Transplant Program needs and priorities are incorporated into other programs' plans and operations. Work with existing and future programs to operationalize care management principles and develop systems to support at-risk populations.
·Leadership
Demonstrate the ability to lead, motivate and communicate with others. Coach and/or mentor others, formally or informally. Provide support for the professional staff in their growth of specialty such as nursing, pharmacy and other staff. Assume leadership in developing, evaluating, and/or improving processes and procedures.
·Regulatory
Partner with Director of Transplant Services and Program leadership to develop self-sustaining processes for measuring and reporting clinical outcome metrics as required by CMS and UNOS. Partner with same to ensure ongoing compliance with changing requirements, and to proactively manage both scheduled and anticipated CMS and UNOS on-site reviews.
·Fiscal Responsibility
Work with the Business Directors of GI and Surgery to manage Liver Transplant Program funds. Work with Transplant Finance and Patient Services financial representatives to develop liver transplant specific financial reports that will help guide efforts to increase value. Primarily responsible for all business aspects of Liver Transplant Program clinical and non-clinical services.
·Personnel Management
Recommend a sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to provide administrative services within Liver Transplant. Direct the control and distribution of present and future FTEs. Manage the selection, development, motivation, appraisal and discipline of reporting personnel. Ensure that job requirements and goals for each position are clear to employees. Determine, ensure and document that personnel have adequate, specific training and orientation, and regularly demonstrate satisfactory levels of competence. Determine and document the qualifications and competence of department personnel.
·Research and Educational Programs
Work with the Medical and Surgical Directors, relevant Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition staff and the ISOT program to ensure e-grants, contracts, and development personnel to support all research and educational initiatives.
·Program Management
Develop and establish a stable, highly reliable, project and process execution system. Work with divisional, programmatic and departmental leadership to develop budgets, business and strategic plans, including financial targets, necessary resources and timeliness. Collaborate with Marketing and Public Relations to develop a coordinated approach for all promotion related to the Program both internally and externally.
·Process Improvement
Identify measures and processes which result in the successful execution of the strategic plan. Partner with Program Leadership and ISOT Program to develop, review and update Quality Assurance & Performance Improvement (QAPI) metrics as required for all solid organ transplant programs by CMS and the United Network for Organ Sharing.
·Professional Development
Maintain currency regarding the research, literature and benchmarking data in Liver Transplant Program.
·Strategic Planning
Strategize with medical and surgical programmatic leadership to develop plans to drive the mission and vision of the Program. Direct & facilitate development of interdisciplinary teams whose focus is Clinical, QI and Research improvements. Foster critical thinking about clinical & research issues, including integration of teams from different domains of care (inpatient, outpatient, nursing, physicians) into a cohesive multi-disciplinary program. Strategize and recommend infrastructure necessary to execute selected projects & processes.
·Operational Management
Partners with nursing to develop and implement patient education material. Participate in planning and directing departmental goals and objectives related to the care of liver transplant patients. In conjunction with the business manager, participate in the development, evaluation and maintenance of budget components.

Required:
·Bachelor's Degree in a related field
·Leadership Experience
·7 years related experience

Preferred:
·Experience in a pediatric medical center
·Project Management Professional Certification (PMP)
·Clinical or administrative experience in a liver transplant program
·Experience managing clinical programs or clinical research projects
