PATIENT CARE ASSISTANT: Full-Time & Part-Time jobs available in the Specialty Resource Unit

The Specialty Resource Unit "SRU" Clinical Support Team is apool of highly trained Patient Care Assistants (PCA), Health Unit Coordinators(HUC), and Mental Health Specialists (MHS) staff that can "float" to 17different inpatient units, the Emergency Department, and the Liberty Townshipcampus. We assist units that may need extra staffing and/or coverage.

Our Patient Care Assistants (PCA) are

· Trained to be unit-based care givers, supportingmultiple patients, in addition to providing 1:1 direct observation andre-direction to patients presenting with an immediate safety concern includingbut not limited to suicidal ideation, flight risk, aggressive behavior,traumatic brain injury, and social concerns. We monitor patients with anExternal Cerebrospinal Ventricular Drain (EVD).

· Additionally, we provide behavioral support andappropriate safety interventions to patients classified as an Employee SafetyRisk (ESR). These patients present with medicaland behavioral challenges or have difficulty adapting to ahospital environment. This role can be a 1:1 assignment or a 2:1 as partner toa MHS or another PCA.

Wehave full-time and part-time positions available on all three shifts: Days7am-3pm, Evenings 3-11pm, and Nights 11pm-7am. We work 8-hour shifts withrotating weekends/holidays. We work at both Main Campus and Liberty Township,as dictated by the patient population need.

Positionsstart at $12.00/hour, and can go up based on years of experience. Evening andNight shifts include $1.50/hour shift differential. Most positions are benefitseligible, and those start immediately. Candidates must be active on the Stateof Ohio Nurse Aide Registry OR must have completed a med-surg rotation (at ahospital) while currently in nursing school.

COLLABORATIVE RELATIONSHIPS: All members of the intradisciplinary healthcare team, the Behavioral Safety Team (BST), and the Adaptive Care Team



PURPOSE OF POSITION: To assist the professional staff with one or multiple patients as assigned in the delivery of direct and indirect patient care activities for the division of Patient Services of a Medical Center dedicated to the care of infants, children and adolescents. To provide 1:1 direct observation and re-direction to patients presenting with an immediate safety concern including but not limited to suicidal ideation, flight risk, aggressive behavior, traumatic brain injury, and social concerns. To specifically monitor patient's with an External Cerebrospinal Ventricular Drain (EVD). To provide support and appropriate intervention to patients classified as an Employee Safety Risk (ESR). To support the monitoring of patients statuses through a video monitoring system as a Portable Camera Observer as deemed appropriate through the division of Patient Services. To provide support to the Patient Escort Team with the safe transport of patients through the medical center as deemed appropriate by the department. To support all inpatient units and departments of the Patient Services division of a Medical Center with the patient care activities and administrative tasks of the area as appropriate.

Sustain a working understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Support leadership in Compliance efforts to meet and sustain the regulatory compliance efforts of the department and hospital. Be mindful and judicious in monitoring safety and departmental policies and procedures. Ensure all individual certifications and Safety College requirements are fulfilled in a timely basis. Work with department managers, nurse council and magnet representatives to identify and share safety best practices. Be mindful of CCHMCs processes and compliance with CMS standards and freely communicate safety and compliance concerns to leadership team members.

Consistently integrates age specific and culturally diverse concepts into patient care, taking into consideration both the patient's chronological age and developmental functioning.
·Plan of Care:
Provide approved care of assigned patients and assist in implementation of interventions under supervision of RN. Supervise and assist patients with activities of daily living. Supervise developmentally appropriate activities. Offers assistance to co-workers after completion of own duties. Use crisis control techniques and assist in de-escalation of visitors. Assist with patient transport as requested.
Demonstrates the Cincinnati Children's CARES behaviors in all interactions with patients, families, visitors and co-workers by actively participating as a front-line example of extraordinary customer service and satisfaction. Reports present status or changes in patient condition on an ongoing basis and in change of shift summary. Completes timely documentation of information in the patient medical record. Seek information and guidance when needed. Discusses concerns of work situation with Director or designee.

·Fiscal Responsibility:
Demonstrates fiscal responsibility and accountability with respect to patient charges and Cincinnati Children's charge capture. Performs duties related to charging and reconciling charges as assigned.
·Administrative Support:
/Responds to communication system/patient alarms and executes with a sense of urgency. Answer the telephone in accordance with CCHMC telephone etiquette. Assemble charts, order patient supplies, and stock clerical supplies.
·Regulatory Standards:
Comply with policies and procedures protecting patient rights for informed consent and the handling of confidential information as defined by Cincinnati Children's mission and applicable laws and regulations. Respect confidentiality of patients, families and employees. Provide for the exchange of appropriate patient care information regarding patients.

Participates in all required CCHMC training and attends required in-services. Participates in professional development opportunities and implements this knowledge into daily practices. Participate in unit staff meetings. Assists in the orientation and training of new employees.

·High School Graduate OR Equivalent AND Listing on the State of OH State Tested Nurse's Aide (STNA) registry OR RN Student Nurse in good standing from a National League of Nurses (NLN) BSN or entry level MSN program w/completion of one medical-surgical clinical rotation or is or has been an EMT or Paramedic
·CPR Certification to be obtained during CCHMC orientation and renewal every two years through CCHMC
