Officer III - Major Gifts (Foundation Relations)

RESPONSIBILITIES

•Strategic Philanthropy
Responsible for developing relationships and executing strategies that result in major gift income (in this role, defined as gifts/pledges of $50,000 to $1 million or more) to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. This position will maintain a portfolio of prospects and his/her work is expected to result in $1 million to $2 million annually to benefit strategic projects and priorities of Cincinnati Children's.

Fundraising Focus: Foundation Relations
Develop and cultivate relationships with corporate foundations, family foundations, private foundations, and non-profits to better understand their philanthropic mission, goals and objectives. Share and educate on CCHMC, strategic needs and niche funding opportunities. Help identify potential funding matches to achieve donor objectives. Manage invitations to request funding. Work with Director to determine appropriate matches for foundation opportunities and requests for proposals. Prepare and submit letters of intent and proposal requests of $50K or more. Oversee internal distribution of leads to faculty, researchers and program leaders. Collaborate with manager to secure appropriate clearances/approvals for divisions and departments seeking funding. Work with appropriate staff and faculty to obtain information and materials for grant applications. Prepare and submit required impact reports regarding use of funding. Collaborate as needed with Sponsored Research Services to ensure that foundation and charitable funding is appropriately recorded and stewarded.

•External Communications
Fulfill an important, externally-oriented role, representing Cincinnati Children's to donors, prospects, medical center leaders, volunteers and national resources as part of the overall effort to raise awareness of and generate support for Cincinnati Children's both locally and nationally. Specific tasks may include preparing written and verbal presentations and proposals and delivering this information personally to potential funders, representing CCHMC at local foundation, family foundation and not-for -profit board meetings, communicating on behalf of CCHMC in donor meetings, at events, in fund-raising committee meetings and at check presentations. Responsible for all written communications with donors, such as gift verification letters and emails, gift agreement drafts, stewardship reports and email messages to coordinate medical center donor visits with leadership. Helps to recruit and staff campaign and special project committees.

•Project Management

Lead or assist in leading targeted major gift fundraising projects and provide accountability for reaching project goals. Assist in departmental projects, events and programs. Remain current on legal and programmatic changes affecting development functions.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • 5 - 7 years of work experience in a related job discipline
  • 3+ years of professional fundraising experience with demonstrated success raising major or planned gifts from individual donors via face-to-face solicitation or from foundations
