Provide leadership for assigned clinical program area with responsibility for clinical care, research, education and administration. Supports the organization's commitment to be the leader in improving child health by developing and leading programs and initiatives that will promote disciplined research and discourse related to the broad spectrum of issues and implications in medical care, education and research.
Strategic Mission: Responsible for the development, communication, and implementation of strategic, operational, and programmatic plans for the assigned area, which are consistent with the mission, vision and values of Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. Effectively interacts with other faculty, staff, and Division leadership, to develop programs that align with and ensure that the organization achieves its strategic mission. Assist with recruitment efforts to ensure that future faculty and staff will support and grow the programs and initiatives
Clinical Care: Assure safety and quality in all patient care. Is instrumental in incorporating a fully integrated, collaborative approach to advancing the delivery of health care to a patient population. Partner with a Division/Department leadership and Clinical Director in achieving clinical quality goals. Promotes team interactions with assigned faculty/staff and Patient Services staff. Monitors and ensures safe and effective clinical practice of staff. Monitors patient outcomes and continually seeks improvements. Supports initiatives to develops the necessary programs or affiliations to offer family centered, community based, coordinated, comprehensive, and culturally competent care. May participate in the interdisciplinary evaluation of patients, and serve as a consultant within Department, medical center, and the community.
Scholarly Activity/Research: Oversees research activities of the assigned clinical area. Develops, leads and encourages innovative clinical and research programs. Plans, develops, designs, and conducts research and/or demonstration projects, both individually and in collaboration with staff or faculty and/or university faculty. Prepares and submits publications in refereed journals based on research/demonstration activities. Promotes research/demonstration activities and publications of staff and trainees. Responsible for pursuing external grant funding as well as philanthropic funding to increase the area's existing financial support. Prepares and submits grant and contract applications.
Education and Training: Supervises the patient care of assigned residents and fellows. Monitor medical care of medical students, residents and fellows to assure care provided is safe. Supervise and teach medical students, residents and fellows. Serve as consult to other faculty and community physicians. May prepare, organize and provide lectures for residents. Prepare and regularly teach at bedside in the Division. Participated in all divisional/departmental educational activities. May participate in the development of educational programs, and teaching materials. Maintain currency in field through continuing education, literature and seminars. Participates in and may lead clinical rounds, medical lectures, grand rounds, and other conferences.
Service and/or Administration: Effectively supervises and leads all assigned faculty and staff. Manages the selection, development, motivation, appraisal and discipline of personnel. Ensures that job requirements and goals for each position are clear to employees. Maintain a climate that attracts, retains, and motivates staff. Provides faculty coverage as needed within the department. Assesses, develops, implements and maintains appropriate departmental policies, procedures, job descriptions and philosophy as consistent with Cincinnati Children's policies and values. Actively participates in all Division activities. Serve on CCHMC committees and working groups. Promote the implementation of long and short term goals and objectives and ensures that they are appropriate to the Division. Complete evaluations for students, residents and peers. May participate as a faculty member of UC including attendance at faculty meetings. Understands, adheres to, and models Core Standards as defined organizationally and specifically within the division/department.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensures compliance with all medical center policies and applicable State and Federal regulations. Oversees clinical and research quality and compliance initiatives. Partners effectively with internal departments and external agencies. Ensures compliance with all Medical Staff Guidelines.

REQUIRED SKILLS: Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of pediatrics, clinical, translational, basic research program, clinical fellowship program, community organization, and relevant federal and state laws and regulations; ability to plan, organize, administer, implement, and evaluate the interdisciplinary programs (education, service, research/demonstration, etc.) within the assigned area and Cincinnati Children's. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with people at all levels of the medical center, as well as individuals nationally and internationally. May require the ability to teach at a university level, prepare grants, contracts, conduct research, and publish in refereed journals.
  • M.D. degree from an accredited school of medicine with an active State of Ohio Medical Board license, and/or PhD in a directly related clinical or research filed.
  • Experience in area of specialization include working in an interdisciplinary setting, medical clinic facilities involving a culturally diverse population, university teaching, research, grantsmanship, and publications
  • May require subspecialty training in the specific clinical area
  • Seven to ten years of managerial experience or equivalent
  • Five to seven years of clinical experience
  • Prior experience in a complex academic medical setting strongly preferred.
