PURPOSE OF POSITION: Provides safe, high-quality patient care in cooperation with the care team. The EMT-P makes careful observation of patients exhibiting a wide array of conditions and diagnoses and intervenes within their scope of practice as defined by policies and protocols. In the Emergency Department the Paramedic works under the direction of the registered nurse.
REQUIRED SKILLS: Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Capable of relating to diverse age and demographic background. Possess a willingness to learn necessary skills and knowledge and to strive for continuous improvement. Work effectively in teams. Ability to work both independently and under direct supervision. Ability to relate to children, adolescents and adults. Capable of bending, lifting and standing; demonstrate physical ability to perform necessary tasks.
EDUCATIONWORK EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • Current Ohio State Paramedic certification
  • CPR certification required (may obtain during CCHMC orientation) and must maintain
  • 1 year of Paramedic experience
  • PALS certification required within 12 months of employment
Preferred:
  • Previous related hospital experience preferred.
Responsibilities
1. Promote effective communication. Promote open and timely communication with all members of the health care team, patients, family members and visitors. Reports to nursing staff any change in observable response to patients condition. Responds promptly to requests by patients, families and employees. Offer assistance to coworkers after completion of own duties. Work effectively in teams. Demonstrate diplomacy, tact and professional demeanor. Participate in improving organizational performance though recommending areas or approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data and providing input to department discussion. Maintain and respect confidentiality of patient, families and employees. Discuss concerns of work situation with director or designee.
2. Work environment. Ensure that the work environment is organized, safe, accessible, effective and efficient for patients, families and coworkers. Competent and current adhering to established standards and practices of CCHMC. Adhere to infection control policies. Report malfunctioning equipment and other environmental hazards immediately. Maintain adequate stock and storage of supplies and equipment. Anticipate change in needs based on volume. Ensure proper working conditions of patient care and unit equipment. Attend required CCHMC training sessions, including radiation safety, laboratory safety, bloodborne pathogens and OSHA.
3. Self development. Engages in a variety of activities and behaviors that characterize level of training. Recognizes own learning needs and those of peers and assists in meeting those needs to maximize professional development and optimal paramedic practice. Willingness to learn necessary skills and knowledge and to strive for continuous improvement. Work both independently and under direct supervision. Attend required CCHMC training sessions. Develop knowledge and professional skill through cross-training, literature and attendance at department meeting. Participate in improving organizational performance though recommending areas or approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data and providing input to department discussion. Participate in ongoing performance management and self development activities. Attend required in services. Participate in unit and Cincinnati Children's activities, committees and councils. Shares in leadership responsibilities. Integrates new knowledge into practice. Acts as a preceptor for new employees. Completes and submits required training records independently and in a timely fashion. Seek information and guidance when needed.
4.Clinical duties and competencies. Competent in performing identified skills as established by department. The employee demonstrates, through clinical interaction with patients, knowledge of growth and developmental needs. Assist in assessment, which includes pertinent collection of data about the health status of the patient. Possess current comprehensive knowledge and skills in emergency and transport care. Demonstrate compliance with established practices in documentation of care.

Hours of operation:

Must be available to work rotation shift during the following hours:

Hours of operation: 8:45am - 1:00am This position will primarily be at the Burnet Urgent Care during the hours of 5pm-1am, though occasional shifts at other Urgent Care locations are possible
