PURPOSE OF POSITION: The ECMO Clinician is responsible for the operation, maintenance and utilization of extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). To serve as a department-based role model and resource for policies, procedures and patient care. To assist others in setting department priorities, keeping in mind the education of self and others while maintaining a cohesive environment. To function as a professional nurse or respiratory therapist and to apply in-depth knowledge about the care of infant, children, adolescent and adult patients and clients. To rapidly recognize and anticipate subtle changes based on past experiences; to coordinate and communicate with appropriate resources as needed.

Responsibilities
·Interprofessional Practice:
Demonstrates consistent integration of the Interprofessional Practice Model (IPM) in all aspects of practice.
·ECMO System Primer:
Designs and assembles ECMO circuits, and prepares the circuit for patient use. Operates, maintains, calibrates and performs quality control testing on all point of care laboratory equipment as per Cincinnati Children's Clinical Laboratory's protocols and CLIA requirements. Provide support for other extracorporeal technologies within the scope of licensure and as needed such as VAD and CRRT.
·ECMO Equipment:
Coordinates with Clinical Engineering department the preventative maintenance and routine equipment checks of all ECMO related equipment. Familiar with entire disposable inventory management process; includes inventory management, ordering, and receiving.

Sustains a comprehensive understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Enthusiastically supports leadership in efforts to meet and sustain the regulatory compliance efforts of the department and hospital. Monitors and complies with safety and departmental policies and procedures. Ensures all individual certifications and Safety College requirements are fulfilled in a timely basis. Is mindful of CCHMCs processes and compliance with CMS standards and assertively communicates safety and compliance concerns to leadership team members.

Required:
·One year of current ECMO Specialist experience
·Two years of critical care experience
·Clinical advancement to RN II or RRII or greater
·Pediatric Advanced LifeSupport
·Neonatal Resusucitation
·Registered Nurse License AND Bachelor of Science Nursing OR Master's Degree in a related discipline OR
·Graduate of a CoARC approved respiratory care program AND Bachelor's degree in related discipline AND Two years of respiratory care experience AND Must maintain active membership in the American Association for Respiratory Care AND Respiratory Care Professional OR
·Bachelor's degree required in an allied health field or equivalent with a strong science background AND advanced training in circulation technology from a CAHEP accredited program AND Certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion OR eligible and actively pursuing with attainment in the first year of employment
