PURPOSE OF POSITION: To provide routine sanitization of equipment, laboratory animal husbandry and care of research animals, including feeding, watering, changing animal cages, monitoring the health of the animal colonies, and maintaining the animal holding rooms and support areas in compliance with AAALAC standards for the Veterinary Services Division of a Medical Center dedicated to the care of infants, children, and adolescents.

Responsibilities
·Husbandry
Provide quality husbandry and care for a variety of animal species; monitor and maintain the health status of the animals by ensuring cleanliness of animals, cages and facilities by maintaining food and water levels, minimizing potential contaminants, performing daily observations of animals, recording and reporting data.
·Policy/Procedures
Understands, adhere and maintain work areas in compliance with Local, State, and Federal regulations, AAALAC guidelines, divisional standards and established standard operation procedures. Follow safety procedures as outlined in standard operations procedures and request help if work deviates from routine. Maintain per diem sheets, daily log and other records as required. Identify and report emergency situations or problems as needed. Responsible for making routine decisions within limits prescribed by established policies or by area supervisor; perform duties at the desired level of competency. Work overtime, weekends and or holidays as scheduled. Respect patient rights for informed consent and the handling of confidential information as described by CCHMC's mission and applicable laws and regulations.
·Continuing Education
Attend as required Vet Services continuing education programs, CCHMC training session, including, laboratory safety, bloodborne pathogens, and OSHA. Comply with infectious control policies and procedures. Maintain currency in field through continuing education, literature, and seminars. Implement this knowledge into the Veterinary Services Division. Participate in improving organizational performance through recommending areas of approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data and providing input to department discussions.

Perform other duties as assigned through detailed instructions from Veterinary Services management staff.

Required:
·High School Graduate OR

Preferred:
·Work experience with animals
·AALAS certification
