PURPOSE OF POSITION: Provide safety checks on a variety of electrical equipment, perform minor equipment repairs and assist senior technicians with Preventive Maintenance (PM) efforts within the Clinical Engineering department at CCHMC.

Responsibilities
·Assessment/Analysis/Problem Resolution
Perform environmental safety testing of electrical equipment. Troubleshoot, repair and modify equipment, as necessary, so as to conform to Joint Commission requirements. Assemble and test any new equipment using appropriate Incoming Inspection criteria. Use the CE database system to document, record and verify the accuracy of all work completed.
·Equipment Maintenance
Perform preventive maintenance on a variety of clinical equipment and satisfy the Joint Commission 'completion rate' criteria, as appropriate for the given type of equipment. Maintain and update, as needed, any service/operator's manuals, the technical library within CE and any parts inventory using the CE database. Use the CE database for monitoring and reporting on any equipment issues. Work with CE Shop Manager and CE Coordinator to make improvements to the CE database, as needed. Generate, revise and update any corresponding PM procedures, as needed.
·Professional Development
Develop knowledge and technical skills through cross-training, literature and participation at department meetings. Maintain knowledge of new and current trends in health care equipment and technologies. Participates in continuing education and training, so as to constantly update technical and personal skills. Continually develop and improve all aspects of customer service skills.
·Communication/Collaboration
Work closely with more experienced technicians to expedite the learning process regarding repairs, PM's and the overall group dynamics within Clinical Engineering. Interfaces daily with co-workers, clinical staff and other support areas to effectively evaluate and maintain all of the equipment and technologies throughout CCHMC. Works with CE Coordinator, CE Director and CE Shop manager to address daily CE concerns. Participates in establishing goals and job requirements, while performing duties at the desired level of competency. Participates in improving organizational performance by recommending areas or approaches for improvement, by performing new procedures, collecting critical data and by providing input into departmental discussions. Work within the '24 X 7' coverage scenario using a variety of shift rotations, if necessary.

Respects patient rights and the handling of confidential information per CCHMC policies. Understands, adheres to and models CCHMC's Core Standards, both organizationally and within the CE department.
·Safety
Ensure that work areas are organized and provide a safe, accessible, effective and efficient environment for employees, patients and families. Attend required CCHMC training sessions, including radiaton safety, laboratory safety, blood borne pathogens and OSHA. Also, comply with all Infection Control policies and procedures.
·Administration
Documents work thoroughly and in a timely manner. Performs any other administrative duties, as needed.

Required:
  • High School Graduate OR Equivalent
  • 1 year related experience in a technical environment OR equivalent

Preferred:
  • Associate's Degree in a related field
  • Experience with CMMS database applications and interfaces, including inventory and parts management
  • Microsoft certification, SQL experience, working knowledge of database relationships, and report writing
