PURPOSE OF POSITION: Develops, modifies, implements, and maintains system software across a variety of platforms for the Division of Biomedical Informatics at a Medical Center dedicated to the care of infants, children and adolescents. Designs, builds and maintains relational databases. Develops strategies for data acquisition, archive recovery, data cleansing and implementation of a database.
Install and modify system software and database software. Architect and implement database schemas in accordance with standard practices. Test software programs and make recommendations for enhancements and/or corrections. Perform utilization monitoring and capacity planning. Develop and apply computational and database tools. Utilize database skills to design, troubleshoot, and optimize relational databases.
Design, write, implement and test stored procedures and functions. Work closely with DBAs to develop, implement, optimize, and maintain relational database management system software backup procedures. Optimize systems with various performance timing methods. Evaluate current systems for quality and utilization; recommend improvements.
Define the technical needs, direction, plans and priorities of work assignments. Resolve complex infrastructure and architecture issues by defining, designing and implementing technical concepts and solutions. Review user and technical documentation for systems implemented. Evaluate systems and technology. Apply appropriate computer technology to complex problems as required. Ensure system software integration when possible.
Consult with BMI IT staff in the installation and modification of computer-based applications. Coordinate work with various vendors to ensure installations have minimal impact. Maintain currency in the field through continuing education, literature and seminars. Implement this knowledge into the department. Participate in establishing job requirements and goals; perform duties at the desired level of competency.

Skill in analyzing, programming, designing, testing and implementing computer-based systems
Knowledge of operating systems (UNIX, LINUX, MAC OS and Windows). Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices. Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting database servers, including hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience. Expertise in various database technologies.
·Bachelor's Degree in a related field
·4 years related experience in a medium to large computing environment Preferred:
