PURPOSE OF POSITION: Under limited supervision able to analyze, design, implement, and maintain computer-based systems. Perform a wide variety of network support functions involving hardware, software and control/monitoring elements. Assist with infrastructure designs. Trains and provides consultative advice.

Responsibilities
·Production Support
Assist with infrastructure designs. Assess a situation and derive the proper plan of corrective action, quickly and decisively. Implementation of technology, network configurations, and network architecture, including hardware and software. Advise coworkers and other IS staff on technologies, specific to network hardware, configurations, and protocols. Develop standards for installation and configuration of network hardware. Coordinates activities in all phases of projects. Assists and trains network systems support, maintenance, operations and other personnel in the use of the network and its service and support requirements. Coordinates and participates in the planning, installation, implementation, certification, operation and maintenance of hardware, software and control elements of the network. Recommends Network operating maintenance, monitor and control techniques, practices and procedures at the network and subsystem level. Work across team boundaries with members of server administration, storage, security, telephony and application development to provide solutions for challenges involving the network infrastructure.
·Technical
Build and deploy network switches, routers, firewalls, VPN's, load balancers, SSL accelerators, and management tools. Test and implement software upgrades for all network equipment with aid from the vendor or by reading and understanding release notes. Analyzes and monitors statistics relative to network capacity and performance, and recommends changes to the configuration of the network. Create high-level and detailed network diagrams using Microsoft Visio or other similar software. Create network usage reports for upper management upon request using vendor supplied and 3rd party tools. Provide on-call 24x7 support on a rotational basis. Analyze network characteristics such as traffic, transmission speeds, packet sizes. Determine causes of operating errors and implements solutions. Consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions. Generate or adapt equipment and technology to serve user needs. Monitor and review information from materials, events or the environment to detect or assess problems.
·Project Management
Development and implementation of new and enhanced projects. Identify the appropriate resources needed to complete projects. Communicate between internal and external parties on project-related issues and developments. Develop and manage project plans. Work with cross-functional teams. Consult with end-user community to develop requirements for system solutions.
·Customer Service
Ensure outstanding end-user support is provided, including ongoing monitoring of Service Level Agreements for incident management and collaboration with other areas to ensure customer-centered incident management and support. Adhere to and promote continual adoption of change management policies and procedures. Model outstanding customer service behavior, including timely and effective follow-up with customers. Always maintain CCHMC's service standards of being Courteous, Attentive, Respectful and Enthusiastic team members, and Safe (CARES).

Develop knowledge and professional skills through cross-training, literature and attendance at department meetings and vendor education. Extensive knowledge of routing and switching technologies including TCP/IP, RIP2, OSPF or EIGRP, BGP, vlans, 802.1q, spanning tree, VRRP or HSRP, and QOS. Working knowledge of packet structures and the ability to perform some analysis of packet captures using Netscout sniffer or equivalent capture tools. Experience configuring and troubleshooting remote access VPN technologies; Cisco ASA and/or Nortel Contivity experience is a plus.

Extensive knowledge on Protocols: TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, RIP, Spanning Tree, Vlan/802.1q, VRRP, IST/SMLT, RSMLT, and VLACP; or comparable protocols. In-depth working professional knowledge on Wireless technologies, specific to 802.11x.
·Disciplines Knowledge
Demonstrates knowledge of disciplines beyond own area of specialty. Exercises own judgment within the parameters of defined policies, procedures and practices. Develop expertise in technologies. Use logical troubleshooting skills to solve complex network related issues. Able to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).

Required:
·Bachelor's degree in related discipline
·2 years related experience
·Exp with controller based wireless LAN technology and authentication using client cert.

Preferred:
·Bachelor's Degree in a related field
·Experience analyzing, programming, designing, testing, and implementing computer-based sys in a large organization
·Direct experience on Nortel / Avaya enterprise switching equipment
·Cisco wireless experience and/or certification
·Knowledge of VMware and Server virtualization in large enterprise environment
