PURPOSE OF POSITION: Responsible for identification, analysis, specification, maintenance and delivery of existing and new production Business Intelligence Solutions to internal and external customers. Provide ongoing support across the organization for production Business Intelligence environments (e.g. Business Objects, MicroStrategy) and enterprise users. Effectively facilitate design, build, validate and document requested deliverables.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Enterprise data strategy: Work with Cincinnati Children's staff and internal Information Services staff to determine requirements for reporting and data warehousing requests. Collaborate with I.S. management to determine short and long range strategies needed to meet enterprise data demands. Work with key customer and report development groups to help ensure solutions are being developed with scalability and efficiencies in mind. Continually refine existing solutions, so that best practices are deployed in individual reports, database structure, and extraction techniques. Work with vendors when necessary to ensure CCHMC investments and requests are being adequately supported and enhanced. Address reporting requests that require more complex solutions or require a deeper knowledge of the source system data models.
Elicit and document user requirements: Serve as the primary interface between users (clinicians/researchers; healthcare delivery staff, or their proxies) and technical developers. Gather and document users' information requirements, translate into technical requirements Analyze existing and future clinical workflows, and represent using structured models. Identify and document use case scenarios. Confer with representatives of departments to resolve questions data input, output requirements, and inclusion of internal checks and controls.
Project Management: Work closely with project teams to solidify understanding of the requirements and ensure their realization throughout the project life cycle. Facilitate clinical/functional requirement review, approval, and sign-off sessions. Under minimal supervision, formulate and define systems scope and objectives through research and fact-finding combined with an understanding of applicable business systems and industry requirements. Develop, document and present project implementation plans. Appropriately and effectively communicate project status to all necessary parties. Utilize project and time management skills to complete projects within specified timeframes.
Support Daily Operations
Consult with department staff and Information Services to determine requirements for reports and dashboards. Serve as a resource person for the department and as a liaison between the department and Information Services. Troubleshoot reports/dashboards to identify root cause of data issues. Assist with report testing.
Taking ownership of tasks with sense of urgency and drive them to completion. Take initiative and know what needs to be done. Communicate to Lead regarding overall issues, roadblocks.
Manage customer relationships: Consult with clients as defined either by initiative or department to determine requirements for data models necessary to support self-service data acquisition and reports. Develop collaborative professional relationships with client group and key stakeholders. Respond to queries from junior BI Analyst staff and/or from customer staff, when former confront technical, data and/or reporting issues beyond their expertise. Help BI analysts and primary customers make optimal use of data warehouses and interactive reports, by providing documentation, training and responsiveness to queries, as required.
Professional growth and development: Maintain currency in the field by participating in educational opportunities provided by the BI Team, independent reading and on-line seminars. Use knowledge to improve skills.
- Bachelor in a related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience
- 5 years related experience
- 2 years of Business Intelligence experience including Data Modeling and metadata management
- Knowledge of one or more Informatica products such as Power Center, Power Exchange, Data Quality, and Enterprise Data Catalog (EDC/EIC)
- 3 years related experience in Enterprise Applications (PeopleSoft, EPIC or similar)
- 2 years Business Objects or MicroStrategy experience
- Knowledge of Teradata, Hadoop eco system a plus.
- Experience working with Azure a plus.
