PURPOSE OF POSITION: To protect the property of and to ensure the safety of parents, patients, visitors and employees through patrolling the buildings and grounds of Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

Responsibilities
·Patrol Buildings
Patrol buildings and ground to prevent fires, vandalism and theft by way of motor vehicle and foot. To ensure the safety and security of patients, parents, visitors, and employees. Maintain constant communications with the Command Center and other division personnel by two-way radio. Ensure that only authorized personnel are admitted onto hospital premises; confront unauthorized persons for questions, routing or detainment appropriate to the circumstance. Report safety and fire hazards observed on routine patrols and inspections; look for violations of the Joint Commission, OSHA, NFPA and Cincinnati Fire Code safety violations.
·Investigation
Respond to and investigate routine complaints reported by patients, parents, visitors and employees. File appropriate documentation by the end of the shift. Conduct follow-up investigations as directed and file appropriate reports by the end of the shift.
·Emergency Response
Responds to distress calls, panic alarms and emergency calls for disorderly conduct, disruptive persons or combative patients within 5 minutes of activation. Assist clinical staff with patient restraint; monitor combative or potentially combative patients as directed. Serve as a member of the trauma team; assist trauma team members. Physically restrain patients as instructed by the appropriate clinical staff members. Physically restrain and or detain felons, persons under the influence (alcohol or drugs), or other combative or criminal type persons. Respond to safety emergencies; evaluate the situation and act appropriately with Cincinnati Children's policy guidelines. Serve as a source of authority; constantly maintain high visibility. Provide help in times of emergency and stress.
·Control, Access, and Dispatch
Direct traffic within Cincinnati Children's and control parking of all patients, parents, visitors and employees. Enforce hospital parking rules and issue parking violations to illegally parked vehicles; immobilize or tow if necessary. Escort patients, parents, visitors and employees to and from parking areas as needed. Control access for the entire Medical Center and perform all necessary locking and unlocking within the various buildings and grounds. Maintain current information in lost and found logs. Act as a resource of information for patients, parents, visitors and employees. Provide information, including directions and parking. Enforce Cincinnati Children's policies and procedures. Perform security escorts of monies and other valuables. Perform motorist assists on Cincinnati Children's property, including jump-starts, keys locked in car and street directions. Serve as dispatch in the Command Center on a rotating basis; monitor alarms and CCTV system, answer phones, dispatch security officers and perform other dispatch services. Handle all situations and concerns to meet the legal and jurisdictional mission of the division and Cincinnati Children's.
·Additional Responsibilities (Joint Commission Information)
Follow policies and procedures governing the handling of confidential information as defined by Cincinnati Children's mission and applicable laws and regulations. Ensure timeliness, accuracy, availability and security of information. Adhere to procedures and policies regarding handling evidence and maintain chain of custody. Provide services in a manner to be regularly and conveniently available to meet the needs of Cincinnati Children's patients, families and employees as determined by division management and Cincinnati Children's governing body. Maintain currency in the field through continuing education, literature and seminars. Implement this knowledge into the Protective Services division. Participate in improving organizational performance through recommending areas or approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data and providing input to the division for discussions. Ensure that work areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective and efficient environment for employees, patients and families. Comply with Infection Control policies and procedures. Participate in establishing job requirements and goals; perform duties at the desired level or competency. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required:
·High School Graduate OR equivalent
·Driver's License
·IAHSS Basic Security Officer Certification within 6 months of hire
