MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical Care: Performs all routine and some specialty diagnostic evaluations. Administers appropriate tests according to standard procedures; makes accurate diagnoses, appropriate recommendations and referrals. Counsels parents and provides appropriate handouts and home programs. Uses best practice decision-making to determine the appropriate frequency and duration of therapy. Formulates appropriate goals for every patient in treatment. Involves parents in treatment plan and treatment process. Structures sessions and selects appropriate intervention strategies to accomplish goals. Measure the effect of intervention in pre-planned time-line using standardized tests.
Documentation and Follow-Up: Documents progress daily and updates treatment plan as appropriate. Completes all required documentation and charges within the standard time frames. Determines discharge criteria and prepares patient for discharge or transition as appropriate.
Scheduling and Contributions to Revenue: Manages schedule and patient visits to make productive use of time and achieve billing targets. Anticipates scheduling variably and makes adjustment in schedule accordingly.
Community Outreach: Responsible to expand research and clinical outreach into the community. Outreach could include providing lectures on specific topics as requested by the community, schools, health fairs and the development of necessary programs to meet the community needs. It can also include evaluating children or providing interventions in their school or in the community (libraries, churches). This role may require a pager access or cell phone access line.
Program Development: Contributes to program development through involvement in special projects or program coordination, conferences, workshops for different intervention approaches and/or marketing efforts. Helps to recruit and coordinate research subjects and participates in research and/or expands clinical programs currently available. Acquires research and patient data in a HIPAA compliant manner. Screens patients and administers tests. Includes maintaining on-going communication with affiliated schools and other community affiliations. Further professional development by attending continuing education meetings, independent reading, individual training and site visits.
Professional Responsibility and Development: Supports and participates in performance improvement activities. Actively participates in at least one division committee or team. Completes mandatory training and required competencies. Maintains licensure and certification. Proactively shares knowledge with peers and/or supervises students.
Required: Education/Work Experience:
- Master's Degree in a professional field of study such as Education or Speech
- Minimum of 2 years of related experience
school-based psychologist, educational diagnostician, OT/PT, or speech pathologist with emphasis/interest in reading.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Demonstrates time management and organizational skills
- Capable of quickly establishing rapport
- Ability to apply reading and language principles and theories in the implementation of assessment and treatment
- Possess excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills in order to help grow the Division and market the program to others.
- Professional knowledge and clinical ability sufficient to evaluate, plan, administer and score reading and cognitive batteries.
- Able to conclude diagnose the child based on the tests' findings. Able to write a report describing the findings and diagnosis as well as the appropriate accommodations.
- Familiar with different intervention programs for children with reading difficulty. An experience working with this population in improving their reading skills.
- Show the ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
- Show an independent work initiative, sound judgment, diplomacy and professional demeanor.
- Demonstrate excellent working knowledge of computer technology.
- Possess knowledge and awareness of the local youth, high school and amateur reading and literacy programs.
- Ability to develop effective relationships with community physicians, schools, teachers, community key-role professionals to increase the awareness of reading and literacy exposure and of reading difficulties.
