PURPOSE OF POSITION: To assist pharmacists with the preparation of medications for dispensing to patients and/or patient care areas and to perform related technical and supportive tasks (prepare dispensing records, type labels, maintain drug inventory, equipment, and supplies) necessary to provide pharmacy services.
·Compliance - Patient Services Staff Sustain a working understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Support leadership in Compliance efforts to meet and sustain the regulatory compliance efforts of the department and hospital. Be mindful and judicious in monitoring safety and departmental policies and procedures. Ensure all individual certifications and Safety College requirements are fulfilled in a timely basis. Work with department managers, nurse council and magnet representatives to identify and share safety best practices. Be mindful of CCHMCs processes and compliance with CMS standards and freely communicate safety and compliance concerns to leadership team members.
·Interprofessional Practice: Demonstrates consistent integration of the Interprofessional Practice Model (IPM) in all aspects of practice.
Prepare ambulatory and sterile dosage forms for dispensing. Interpret physician orders, prepare dispensing records, type labels and calculate doses and drug volumes for drug dosages. Prepare total parenteral nutrition admixtures using automated equipment or manually.
·Systems and Documentation Interact with pharmacy and hospital computer systems as necessary to maintain records, generate billing, labels and reports. File orders and D/C patient files
·Inventory Management Maintain inventory and stock levels and equipment as necessary.
·Leadership Must participate in 80% (or more) of peer evaluations.
Skills & Competencies
·Clerical Abilities Ability to perform clerical functions with accuracy and attention to detail
·Communication - Intermediate Good verbal, written and/or interpersonal communication skills
·Knowledge of Field - Intrm Knowledge of regulations, procedures and best practices in field
·Dexterity Possess finger dexterity, manual dexterity and motor coordination necessary to manipulate necessary tools/objects
·Math Skills Mathematical ability sufficient to perform basic and routine calculations
·Preferred Knowledge of aseptic technique and IV preparation and a familiarity with medical and scientific terminology are preferred. Typing skills preferred.
·High School Graduate OR equivalent
·1 year of related hospital experience
·National Pharmacy Technician Certification
·Associates Degree OR Certificate in Pharmacy Technology
