Participate in improving/assuring organizational and/or departmental performance/quality through recommending areas or approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data and/or providing input to department discussions. Receive and accession specimens using LIS ensuring proper patient identification, specimen integrity and timeliness. Performs EPIC registration as required. Performs defined supervised testing under an approved department program. Testing program must be supervised, CLIA compliant and must be approved the Laboratory Director. Competencies are required following CAP (College of American Pathologists) guidelines. Resolves test order related issues (test in question, sample in question) and manages add-on tests. Researches and resolves unusual/uncommon tests. Perform routine procedures within respective discipline, including the collection and analysis of data which will affect decisions regarding patient care.
Attends required Cincinnati Children's training sessions, including radiation safety, laboratory safety, bloodborne pathogens and OSHA. Enforce compliance with Infection Control policies and procedures. Understands, adheres to and models Core Standards as defined organizationally and specifically within the department/unit. Respect patient rights for informed consent and the handling of confidential information as defined by Cincinnati Children's mission and applicable laws and regulations. Ensures the exchange of appropriate patient care and clinical information when patients are admitted, referred, transferred or discharged. Be a patient and staff safety advocate and work within Safety Coaching system to create a safety minded environment in the laboratories.
Answers the incoming telephone calls; provides assistance to the caller directly, or transfers caller to appropriate location. Access & communicate laboratory results for customers by using LIS. Acts as a role model for the level of customer service provided by the laboratory. Works closely with supervisor and staff to ensure AM/STAT service level delivery objectives.
Maintains inventory of laboratory supplies and ensures storeroom is keep stocked and clean. Orders necessary supplies from copy center, purchasing and receiving dept. as required. Provides input to Lab Test Directory on changes. Contributes on a continuing basis to improvements and innovations to increase productivity and customer service. Performs phlebotomy where appropriate. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Laboratory Supervisor/Manager. Recommend approaches for improvement activities, recommend and perform new processes, collect and measure data, develop processes based on performance and communicate results.
