PURPOSE OF POSITION: To employ an introductory skill-level part-time lab aide (likely a college student seeking work-study and exposure to a research environment) to perform tasks associated with mouse colony maintenance (tagging and tailing, DNA extraction and genotyping, and mouse husbandry.) To perform routine laboratory maintenance and support tasks for an assigned division (s) department (s) of a Medical Center dedicated to the care of infants, children and adolescents.
Perform laboratory maintenance tasks: assist with maintenance of various pieces of equipment and autoclave various lab supplies such as tubes, glassware, media, pipet tips, etc. Inventory and order laboratory supplies. Keep supplies well-stocked and laboratory well-organized; pick up storeroom orders, unpack boxes, organize supplies.
Monitor the lab for radioactivity. Assist with radiation safety paper work, waste disposal and wipe tests.
Make solutions. Prepare standard buffers, reagents, and media. Locate, retrieve, copy and return library materials for laboratory personnel. Provide general clerical support: xeroxing, faxing, answering telephones, etc.
