Oversees the technical aspects of the clinical laboratories at Base, Liberty, Oak and/or all satellite locations. Establishes and monitors the standards of accuracy and precision in the performance of assays and/or the operation of equipment. Assists in the development, revision, maintenance and yearly documented review of technical policy manuals. Assures that policy and procedures are written in Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) or other designated format, and complies with Federal Standards. Creates and carries out project plans meeting the needs of the laboratory section, vendor partner, regulatory agencies and other key stakeholders when implementing new sections or technologies in the laboratory. Responsible for new test evaluation and introduction to include instrument validation, test validation, staff training, and establishing QC and writing final SOP. Acts as the technical expert for instrument platforms to include method improvement, troubleshooting instruments, assays, interfaces and working with instrument vendor/specialist. Coordinates clinical trials and research as appropriate.
Contributes to the effective management of the clinical laboratories. Establishes and meets annual goals that are developed to assist the Laboratory in achieving its vision and mission. Attends and actively participates in appropriate and/or assigned department and/or hospital committees as documented by meeting minutes. Interacts effectively with superiors, subordinates and peers so as to accomplish the goals of the department. Works to standardize technical policies and procedures in the Base Laboratory, Liberty Laboratory, Oak Laboratory and all satellite laboratories. Accepts and completes special assignments relating to general laboratory management and administration as required. Assists in the planning, design, measurement, assessment and improvement of clinical laboratory services, including LIS and testing workflow and procedures.
Coordinate the training, education, and/or development of staff, new employees, patients, visitors, students, fellows, residents, and/or the community. Develops in-service and other training curricula for labs related to specific discipline or research findings. Educates staff for transition of new testing and/or LIS functions as necessary.
Respects patient rights for informed consent and the handling of confidential information as defined by Cincinnati Children's mission and applicable laws and regulations. Performs routine procedures within respective discipline, including the collection and analysis of data which will affect decisions regarding patient care. Provide education to personnel, patients or family through structured presentations and unstructured interactions while performing tests or resolving technical questions. Attends required Cincinnati Children's training sessions, including radiation safety, laboratory safety, bloodborne pathogens and OSHA. Serves as resource for safety questions for employees. Enforce compliance with Infection Control policies and procedures.
