Position Title: Dialysis Technician Department: Division of Patient Services Supervisor's Title: Dialysis Clinical Manager Collaborative relationships: All members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team Titles Supervised: N/A Total Number of FTEs Directly or Indirectly Supervised: 0 Purpose of Position: To assist the professional staff in the delivery of the hemodialysis treatment for the ESRD patient

Responsibilities
·Patient Care
Under the delegation of the Medical Director of Dialysis and direct supervision of a registered nurse the Dialysis Technician performs and monitors dialysis procedures, including: pre and post treatment vital signs and weights, set up dialysis machine per prescription, initiation, interdilytic monitoring, discontinuation of dialysis treatments, drawing blood samples, responding to complications that may arise during dialysis, administration of Ohio Board of Nursing approved medications, documentation in electronic record, performing and recording vital signs and all other parameters of ESRD patients as per CCHMC policy and/or state regulations, reviewing dialysis prescription, noting general physical and mental condition of patient through observation and interview, collecting patient data, monitoring and documenting status of vascular access, documenting patient observations and seeking guidance when levels are out of normal range for ESRD patients, instructing patient in the care of vascular access, and reinforcing treatment care with patient, Additionally, offers assistance to co-workers after completion of own duties, and assists with patient transport as requested.

Demonstrates the Cincinnati Children's CARES behaviors in all interactions with patients, families, visitors and co-workers by actively participating as a front-line example of extraordinary customer service and satisfaction. Reports present status or changes in patient condition on an ongoing basis and in change of shift summary. Completes timely documentation of information in the patient medical record. Seek information and guidance when needed. Discusses concerns of work situation with Manager or designee.
·Improvement:
Identifies system problems and utilizes strategies for resolutions. Participate in improving organizational performance through recommending areas or approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data and providing input to department discussions. Participate in establishing job requirements and goals; perform duties at the desired level of competency. Perform other duties as assigned.

Participates in all required CCHMC training and attends required in-services. Participates in professional development opportunities and implements this knowledge into daily practices. Participate in unit staff meetings. Assists in the orientation and training of new employees.
·Environment:
Set up, dismantle, and monitor dialysis machines and systems. Monitor dialysis machines and RO water system for correct functioning, respond to visual and audible alarms and make appropriate adjustments before, during, and after the dialysis treatment. Dismantle, clean, and disinfect dialysis machines and equipment according to CCHMC policies and procedures. Ensures that within the division, all areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective and efficient environment for patients, families, visitors, and employees. Adhere to safety procedures appropriate to children's ages and development levels.
·Fiscal Responsibility:
Demonstrates fiscal responsibility and accountability with respect to patient charges and Cincinnati Children's charge capture. Performs duties related to charging and reconciling charges as assigned.
·Administrative Support:
Responds to communication system/patient alarms and executes with a sense of urgency. Answer the telephone in accordance with CCHMC telephone etiquette. Assemble charts, order patient supplies, and stock clerical supplies. Proactively review and report inventories and supply shortages to manager
·Regulatory Standards:
Comply with policies and procedures protecting patient rights for informed consent and the handling of confidential information as defined by Cincinnati Children's mission and applicable laws and regulations. Respect confidentiality of patients, families and employees. Provide for the exchange of appropriate patient care information regarding patients.

Required:
·High School Graduate OR Equivalent
·1 year of work experience
·Current Dialysis Technician Certification by a state certification program OR A national commercially available certification program per these guidelines
·Able to demonstrate completion of all applicable state requirements for education, training, credentialing, competency, standards of practice AND licensure in the state of Ohio as a dialysis technician
·Completion of required Cincinnati Children's orientation AND
·Basic computer skills and proficiency in MS Word and Outlook Requires training in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and maintenance of certification

Preferred:
·Previous related hospital experience preferred
