PURPOSE OF POSITION: Provides consultative support to CCHMC departments and divisions to ensure proper billing practices in a medical center dedicated to the care of infants, children, and adolescents. Serve as a resource for sub-specialty divisions and proactively identify problem areas and work toward appropriate solutions.

Responsibilities
·Autonomy
Pursuing work with little supervision or assistance. Direct one's own efforts.
·Communication
Notify appropriate staff of recurring divisional problems/errors identified within the work queues. Notify appropriate staff of Epic/Cerner problems/errors. Provide suggestions for resolution.
·Improvement
Responsible for developing processes and improving divisional performance by recommending areas of approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data and providing input to departmental discussions. Identify opportunities to reduce payer denials and enhance departmental revenue.
·Serve as a Resource
Serve as resource to staff for accurate coding and documentation guidelines, policies, and procedures. Identifies training needs, prepare training materials and conducts training staff to improve their skills in coding and documentation. Escalate issues when appropriate.
·Professional Development:
Maintains currency of CMS, State of Ohio, official coding and other guidelines, rules and regulations, and applies principles as appropriate. Act as a resource within the team. Attain a higher level of relevant skill ability or knowledge through education, practice, or research. Demonstrate a desire to learn, seeking feedback from others and opportunities to develop. May lead and/or train other team members. Perform special projects as assigned.
·Leadership
Is self-directed in assuming responsibilities. Provides a leadership role in developing, implementing, and evaluating. Participates in special projects as requested. Work collaboratively with department management.
·Billing-Financial Support:
Work with the team to ensure all lab/professional charges are captured and billed accurately. Input charges and all associated information efficiently and accurately to ensure the divisional lag days do not exceed the assigned benchmark (5 Days). Review assigned work queues timely and accurately. Percentage remaining at the end of each week should not exceed 5%. Serve as a liaison between the Professional and Hospital Billing offices, and the divisions.

Skills & Competencies
·Coding and Billing
Possess expert knowledge and experience with the coding and billing requirements of ICD-9/10 and CPT coding. Knowledgeable in CMS and Ohio State billing rules. Professional knowledge and ability sufficient to effectively carry out the responsibilities of the position.

Basic review of data, work queues and reports.

Required:
·Associates Degree OR Equivalent combination of education and experience
·Registered Health Information Technician OR Registered Health Information Administrator OR Certified Coding Specialist OR Certified Professional Coder
·3 years related experience utilizing the ICD-9 and CPT coding systems
·Professional fee billing and coding experience
