PURPOSE OF POSITION: To direct and coordinate all aspects of VPS and CCHMC PICU Database functions including data collection, data submission, analyze quality reports and manage the databases. The Virtual PICU System is a national PICU database which is used to facilitate quality improvement activities and research within Critical Care Medicine and the PICU and provide national comparative clinical benchmarks.

Responsibilities
·Data Coordination:
Direct and coordinates all aspects of data collection, data harvest, quarterly outcomes report analysis and review. Abstracts and enters data into VPS and other PICU databases for all PICU patients.
·Quality Improvement:
Supervise and coordinate quality improvement efforts, either within the department or within a larger quality assessment team, related to data collection and reporting. Applies data to facilitate quality improvement activities within the PICU and Critical Care Medicine and provide national comparative clinical benchmarks. Provides real-time review of documentation in the EMR to improve the quality and accuracy of medical records of PICU patients.
·Information Analysis:
Utilizes software applications, both internal and external, for data collection and analysis. Responsible for the accurate and timely entry of data into the program's database and ensures compliance with VPS requirements. Monitor and assure timeliness, accuracy, availability and security of information
·Management Reporting:
Responsible for monthly and quarterly statistical and analysis reporting of PICU data.
·Collaboration:
Establishes effective working relationships with members of the hospital community, especially staff in the Surgery, Medicine, Nursing, Medical Records and Information Systems and all other departments whose support is necessary for the management and success of the program. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to define outcome parameters, design measurement tools, and evaluate results. Acts as a liaison between the VPS staff and CCHMC.
·Professional Inquiry:
Consult and collaborate with Nursing and Critical Care Medicine to provide/collect data to enhance professional inquiry. Maintain current in field through continuing education, literature and seminars. Represent the PICU and Critical Care Medicine and Cincinnati Children's at local, state, and national levels through involvement in professional associations and organizations. Implement the knowledge into the department.
·Research:
Assist with, participate in, and support research initiatives for the PICU and Critical Care Medicine.

Required:
·Bachelor's degree in nursing, respiratory therapy or a directly related clinical field AND 5 years of critical care experience OR Associate's degree in nursing, respiratory therapy, or a directly related clinical field AND 9 years of critical care experience
·Clinical chart review and abstraction experience required WITH working knowledge of data management processes and an advanced understanding of MS Office

Preferred:
·Virtual PICU Systems database experience
·Prior experience within a complex medical center
·EMR data extraction experience business software Access, Word, Excel PowerPoint, database data entry and basic statistics
·Quality improvement experience with a proven track record of results
·Master's Degree OR in a healthcare related field
