PURPOSE OF POSITION: To perform and communicate routine and complex laboratory procedures and analysis in accordance with established procedures and policies for the assigned Division and Laboratory within the Medical Center.

·Patient Testing and Procedures
Perform the duties and responsibilities of a Clinical Laboratory Specialist I and/or Research Assistant II. Perform, report and troubleshoot assigned technical procedures in the section; follow standard operating protocols. Perform registration, phlebotomy and catheterization. Perform routine and complex procedures within respective discipline, including the collection and analysis of data which will affect decisions regarding patient care. Prepare samples for analysis. Enter all test results in the system, perform results inquiries, and other follow-up activities. Identify technical and patient related issues or discrepancies. Notify appropriate personnel and assist with investigation and documentation of the resolution. Rotate weekend and holiday schedules as required. Cover shifts other that scheduled when below minimum staffing or heavy workload.
·Communication - General
Effectively demonstrate communication skills related to conveying relevant information. Develop and maintain efficient internal communication processes to support the activities of the department/program. Openly communicate across many departments regarding clinical, patient care, physical and/or material resources. Keep key leadership, administrative staff and other stakeholders fully informed of projected and actual developments in a timely manner. Prioritize multiple requests for information.
·Operations Support
Operate instruments; perform performance checks, calibrations, preventative maintenance, basic troubleshooting from written guidelines. Prepare reagents, assist with the monitoring of supplies and inventories. Maintain a clean and orderly work environment. May be responsible for the proper disposal and tracking of reagents and /or radioactive material within established guidelines. May conduct, direct or assist with special projects, evaluations, experiments or research.
·Professional Development/Training
Instruct and train students, new staff, residents and fellows on bench procedures and protocals. Participate in cross-trained rotations and demonstrate continued competency in various sections of the Laboratory. Maintain currency in the field, including maintenance of any necessary licensure/certification, through continuing education, conferences, meetings, in-services, networking, literature, and/or seminars. Attend all mandatory CCHMC training sessions. Implement obtained knowledge/skills into one's own work, the department, and/or the organization. Assume responsibility for one's own professional growth and development. May participate in internal/external professional committees, agencies, councils, and/or activities.
Perform and report quality control procedures, including daily, weekly and monthly monitoring. Identify, document, track, and trend quality control failures, taking action to resolve all issues. Understand and comply with applicable policies, guidelines, regulations, and/or accreditation standards. Check for trends, Document compliance as necessary. Maintain compliance with CCHMC Core Standards and code of ethics. May be responsible for ensuring that work areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective, and/or efficient environment for employees, patients, and/or families.

·Bachelor's Degree in a related field OR Equivalent
·2 years related experience helpful
