SUPERVISOR'S TITLE: Clinical Supervisor or Manager


PURPOSE OF POSITION: The primary responsibility of the Clinical Laboratory Specialist III is to maximize the technical operations of all clinical laboratory sections. To perform and communicate routine and complex procedures and analysis in accordance with established procedures and policies for the Clinical Laboratory department of a Medical Center dedicated to the care of infants, children and adolescents. This individual develops, organizes, and maintains the sections in areas of instrumentation, test procedures, workflow, and employee training.

Maintain currency in the field, including maintenance of any necessary licensure/certification, through continuing education, conferences, meetings, in-services, networking, literature, and/or seminars. Assume responsibility for one's own professional growth and development. May participate in internal/external professional committees, agencies, councils, and/or activities.
Able to perform the duties and responsibilities of a Medical Lab Technician. Perform assigned technical procedures in the section; follow standard operating protocols. Operate instruments; perform performance checks, calibrations, preventive maintenance, basic troubleshooting from written guidelines. Perform and report Quality Control procedures. Identifies Q.C. failures. Performs analytic method range (AMR) analysis, interpretation and recommendation for implementation or additional analysis. Serve as shift charge technologist to ensure all technical department testing is complete. Assumes troubleshooting responsibilities for inter/intra departmental problems that might arise. Escalates to medical director/lab administrator on-call where appropriate. Prepare sample for analysis. Store and preserve specimen. Prepare reagents, assist with the monitoring supply inventories, receive and stock supplies. Perform registration, phlebotomy and catheterization as required by location. Perform routine procedures within respective discipline, including the collection and analysis of data which will affect decisions regarding patient care. Rotate weekend and holiday schedules as required. Cover shifts other than scheduled when below minimum staffing or heavy workload.

Maintain day to day operations, possibly including the allocation of personnel. Implement new and revised policies and procedures as necessary. May provide input on planning, evaluating and/or implementing programs and/or procedures. May give work direction to others.
Identify technical and patient related problems or discrepancies. Notify appropriate laboratory personnel and assist with investigation and documentation of the resolution. Report and documents results accurately, completely and in a timely basis. Report problems and assist appropriate personnel with troubleshooting and documentation of the resolution. Provides excellent customer service to all internal and external customers. Consistently provides concise communications for interdepartmental hand-off of data.

·Bachelor of Science AND Registered Medical Lab Scientist AND 3 years related experience OR
·Associates Degree AND Registered Medical Lab Tech AND 5 years for MLT.
·Multidisciplinary experience

·Extensive technical expertise in respective discipline
