Receive and accession specimens using LIS ensuring proper patient identification, specimen integrity and timeliness. Competencies are required following CAP (College of American Pathologists) guidelines. Resolves test order related issues (test in question, sample in question) and manages add-on tests. Researches and resolves unusual/uncommon tests. Perform routine procedures within respective discipline, including the collection and analysis of data which will affect decisions regarding patient care.
Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication. Displays pleasant and courteous manners/attitude at all times. Serves as a resource person when asked, shares knowledge/expertise and assists in orienting new employees. Notify appropriate personnel and assist with investigation and documentation of the resolution.
Produces work that is accurate, neat, complete and timely. Identifies technical and specimen related problems or discrepancies. Demonstrates knowledge of laboratory information systems. Ability to retrieve results, locate specimen requirements, fax results, troubleshoot a specimen/test issue. Performs EPIC registrations and scanning as required. Perform routine operational functions such as supply inventory and maintenance logs. Monitors transfer lists from outpatient laboratories to assure specimen receipt.

Maintain, monitor, organize, input, and/or ensure integrity of data and/or records. May audit data as necessary to ensure accuracy. Generate reports as needed and disseminate to appropriate individuals. May improve/maintain processes, operations, and/or performance using available data or assist in this process. May provide data collection, input, mining, and/or analysis. Respond to, process, and/or track all related requests. May assist in automating existing processes or recommend changes to management.
Informs customers/patients of unavoidable delays as soon as possible, apologizing for the delay. Makes things right when a customer's expectations have not been met by taking ownership of the problem, resolving it promptly or referring it to someone who can. Notifies patient caregiver when specimen is unacceptable for testing, calling a critical result, or obtaining faxed orders for additional testing. Assists customers in retrieving samples from storage tracking system, or adding on additional tests. Places tubes and pour off samples into storage tracking. Regularly and conveniently available to provide services to meet the needs have families and Cincinnati Children's employees as determined by department management and Cincinnati Children's governing body. Acts as a role model for the level of customer service provided by the laboratory. Works closely with supervisor and staff to ensure AM/STAT service level delivery objectives
