PURPOSE OF POSITION: To provide pastoral care to patients, families and staff as a Chaplain Fellow throughout the medical center. To gain skills in qualitative research interviewing; in determining how patients/families of faith are using their faith to cope and for medical decision-making; and to gain competence in conveying spiritual assessment synopses to the interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities
·Provide Pastoral Care to Patients and Families
Visit patients and families. Assess the spiritual and religious resources/needs of patients and families. Provide for the spiritual and religious needs of patients/families. Function as member of the interdisciplinary team giving particular attention to communicating how patients/families are using spirituality/religion for coping and medical decision-making. Assist local clergy in their ministry to patients and families. Respond to all medical team and trauma pages. Provide end of life care support and documentation. Provide pastoral care to staff members as needed and appropriate, including formal and informal staff debriefings.
·Education and Development
Learn skills needed for qualitative research. Participate in pastoral care research initiatives as guided by the Sr. Director of Pastoral Care.
·Research Literacy and Participation
Remain current with research in pastoral care, chaplaincy, and spirituality/religion in healthcare.

Required:
·Undergraduate degree from a CHEA accredited institution
·Master's Degree(s) from a theological institution accredited by a member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Degree(s) and any additional coursework must involving a minimum of 72 semester credits.
·Ordained or licensed to function as a chaplain by faith tradition/denominational authority
·4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education as offered through an ACPE accredited organization

Preferred:
·Previous experience in a pediatric work environment
